= Even more hints = Here is a collection of hints that beginning adventurers might find useful. If you can think of more, please report them to us with the 'idea'-command (see 'help reporting'). * There is much useful information on our web pages. * If you 'quit' the game from anywhere but an inn, all of your equipment and inventory will drop to the ground. You can use the 'leave game' command, instead of 'quit', to make sure you only leave from an inn; in fact, it's a good idea to alias 'quit' to 'leave game', so you never use 'quit' by accident (see 'help alias'). * It's a good idea to read the following pages: starting, living, newbie areas, rules, faq, settings, helper. * There is a zoom-able map of Icesus on the web site, with special locations marked as red dots. The following URL will take you to the map, zoomed in around Vaerlon (the big yellow splotch): http://www.icesus.org/Documentation/map.php * You can use the non-zoomed map to the right to change which portion of the map is zoomed-in. * It can be even more dangerous to wander in the outworld during the night. Staying on the roads and paths makes traveling safer, but even then you can still meet nasty things at night; going off the roads during the night is a very bad idea. * Should you still find yourself lost in the outworld, you may request the local sage of Vaerlon to teleport you back via 'tell ereldon teleport', which will cost you a small amount of gold. In the unfortunate event that you carry no money, you might try requesting help from our staff of people dedicated to help new players, 'help helper'. * Use the 'time' or 'who' commands to see how long it is till the sun rises or sets, or add the "[hour]" argument to your prompt (read page 'prompt'). Read page 'hours' for an explanation of the hour names, and page 'calendar' if you are want to learn about Icesus' calendar. * If you haven't already, read about the world of Icesus from our worldbook. * To see a list commands, read page 'commands'. We have four books: The Player's Handbook for game mechanics and guides, worldbook for lore and history, rulebook for game community rules and command book for in-game commands. * Read pages 'divine favor', 'blessing' and 'element costs'. * Don't hesitate to report bugs, ideas or anything else you think we should know about; you can even get awarded PDF for reporting bugs and typos. Read 'help reporting'. * You can (for free!) name objects, to help distinguish between otherwise identical looking items, and to make notes on individual items; read 'help name'. Note that anyone can change the name of any item, so this is no good marking an item as belonging to you. * You can use the 'drag-'command to drag unconscious players and big and heavy objects. This can be a true lifesaver. * You can loot all corpses easily with the 'get'-command. There is also a global alias 'loot' for this. Read 'help get'. * The 'note'-command allows you to write down brief notes which are saved and can be viewed later with the same command. * Some races have special commands. To see if your race has them, type 'race'. * You can buy flint and steel from the general store to light campfires. * Have you noticed that you can extract torches from campfires every now and then? * Remember to 'refuel' your campfire, and 'camp build' to rebuild existing camps. * When traveling on roads, you can use the 'walk'-command to move much faster; you can use capitalized abbreviated directions ("N", "NE", and so on) to do the same thing. * Try to interact with NPCs (Non-Player Characters), and don't just kill everything you see. You might find things otherwise hidden. The 'ask'-command is the best way to interact with them. * There are rumours about mysterious portals floating in the air in certain places in the outworld. If you find one, they might be worth investigating, but be careful. * Turn the alert channel on, 'channel join alert' as this alerts you when a deadly area spell is being cast. You will also start to pick up names of the different areas as well.
