As large and powerful as horses appear, they are surprisingly fragile
creatures. When injured or exhausted they can take quite a while to recover
on their own. A person skilled in horse care can greatly accelerate the
process by providing guidance to the animal, soothing it, caring for its
wounds, and in general applying the common sense that the animal can't use
for itself.

This will also settle an angry horse.
