Quickstart
Connect
Open the Icesus web client and follow the login prompts to create a character or return to an existing one.
If you use a MUD client, connect to icesus.org, port 4000, or port 4443 with TLS enabled. See client setup for connection options.
Choose Quick Start or Custom
Quick Start offers prepared characters such as Soldier, Mage, Healer and Ranger. It chooses a race, kingdom and story for you and suggests a guild. You still join that guild in the world.
Custom lets you choose your race, stats, kingdom, story and home town yourself. Read Character creation if you want to understand those choices first. Reincarnation lets you rebuild later.
Meet Alice
Your first adventure begins at the Parson's Head, a wayhouse on the road to Vaerlon. Alice helps you learn to talk, explore and handle an encounter, then walks with you to the city.

Follow the prompts at your own pace. The journey has saved checkpoints; an unfinished chapter may replay when you return. After reaching Vaerlon, use journey for your next guided step. See Starting for guilds and training.
Before your first fight
Read the scene and Alice's advice. Outside the tutorial, use consider <monster> to judge an opponent. It is an estimate, not a promise of safety.
Type battle to check your combat points and wimpy to check when you will try to flee. New characters already have these set. hp shows your health; mon on keeps you informed as it changes. See Combat for more.
Save and leave
Type leave game and read the response before closing the client. At an inn, this saves your character and equipment and logs you out. Eligible newcomers can be guided to an inn from elsewhere when alive and out of combat. If the command asks you to find an inn, do so.
quit shows leaving instructions. A lost connection leaves you linkdead with your equipment; reconnect to continue. emergency_quit drops your equipment, so use it only as a last resort.
