Character creation
Choose a starting path
Icesus offers Quick Start and Custom character creation. Quick Start is a useful first choice if you want to learn by playing.
Quick Start offers prepared builds, including Soldier, Mage, Healer and Ranger. It chooses a race, kingdom and story for you and suggests a guild. You still join a guild after entering the world, and you can choose a different one.
Custom creation lets you choose each part yourself: race, stats, kingdom, story and home town. Use info to read the options as they appear. You can later use reincarnation to change your race and rebuild your guild path.
Name and account details
Choose a name of 3–12 lowercase letters. Names from well-known books, films and games, common words and offensive names are not allowed. Read help creation and the naming rules during creation.
Choose a strong password. Email and real name are optional; privileged staff can use them for account recovery and support. A valid email can help if you lose access. You can update your details with chfn and your password with passwd.
Race
In custom creation, read info <race> before choosing. Consider:
- Stats — which abilities support the role you want?
- Vision — can the race see in daylight and darkness?
- Allergies — will sunlight, water or another condition cause trouble?
- Size — what equipment will fit?
Use select <race>, then continue. The race guide and Race table help you compare choices. You do not need to optimise every stat before your first adventure.
Stats
After the race you spend points on strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom and charisma. What a point costs depends on your race: strength is cheap for an antaeun, intelligence is not.
Kingdom
Next you choose the kingdom your character comes from. It carries a set of stat, skill, spell and resistance bonuses, and it decides which stories and home towns you see afterwards. A first character always takes Valkor. The other kingdoms unlock as your total experience grows, so a reincarnating character sees a longer list. Use kinfo to read what each one open to you gives.
Story
Each kingdom offers several stories, and the story is where most of your starting skills and spells come from. It also hands your character a past to play from: what they wanted, what they feared, how they ended up adventuring. Stories explains the steps and Stories info has the bonus tables.
Home town
Last you pick a home town from the ones your kingdom and story allow. Beyond reputation it is cosmetic. New characters do not choose one and start in Vaerlon.
Read each option with info before you commit. Nearly every step is final once you pass it, and redoing a choice means redoing the whole creation.
