All large or sturdy structures are created from timber frames. The key to constructing timbers is to make each timber be just large enough to bear its greatest load without being oversized. The joints of the structure are critical as they are the weakest points. A skilled timber builder can make a structure with stronger joints and less wood which will last for many lifetimes.
