Light brown hollow instrument of the forest

This item seems as a small log which is hollow from inside. As you look inside it more carefully you notice small chitinious wings being attached inside the cavity. On the other end of the log, a rune carved stone is placed apparently to balance the log. It looks like some sort of tribal instrument and you wonder if you could somehow play or use it. A small clattering can be heard from inside the instrument.
