Prayer guide
Pray, Praying and Piety: a Guide to being a Pious Player in Icesus
Summary
Icesus has a system by which players can pray to the power of Aegic, including but not limited to the elemental gods, for something in return. Rewards include relief from wounds, removal of nethers, youth, and more. The powers of Aegic include the four elemental deities Dhubr, Albila, Zrammas, and Pthuule and those of the pagan beliefs include The Nameless King, Spirits of Aegic, Nether World, Ancestors, and Aetheria.
Commands and Definitions
- pray: a command to request something in return for the sacrifice of divine favor or tributes
- piety: 1. a command to see your standing with the various powers of Aegic (score -p does this as well). 2. a unit of standing with the various powers of Aegic
- prayer: A skill that is automatically used with the
praycommand and is learnable by doing up to 100%.
The pray list command lists available prayers you can use, e.g.
Prayers known to you: absolution albila's bounty boon nameless king's permission nether ward relief safe passage veneration youth
And pray help gives details on the prayers, but a high level description is also included here.
Prayers
- absolution - Usable at an altar by a priest of an elemental god this prayer allows the priest to take on the sins of another and then rid them through acts of penance.
- albila’s bounty - Improves your fishing luck in exchange for 500 piety with Albila
- boon - Gives you a single boon point for your cultural guild in exchange for 10,000 piety with your ancestors.
- nameless king's permission - improves hunting luck in exchange for 500 piety with the Nameless King
- nether ward - removes some of the nether from you in exchange for 500 Nether World piety.
- relief - Heals you and works better with more skill in prayer. Costs piety of your worshipped god. Wilders use ancestors piety when praying for relief. You can also pray for relief for another player in the same room, e.g.
pray for relief for belannaer(which actually grants you piety if you are a priest). - safe passage - This prayer gives you safe passage across the lands for 10 minutes in exchange for 150 piety with the Nameless King. It only stops new encounters from spawning, it doesn’t remove existing encounters.
- veneration - Costs df to pray scaling with level 10 up to 50. This is the default prayer if you just
pray, it provides some piety to the elemental god you worship. Wilders cannot pray for veneration. - youth - This prayer makes you younger in exchange for 10000 piety with Aetheria.
Obtaining Piety
Piety can be earned through several core activities across Aegic:
- Defeating Mobs: Killing monsters affiliated with an opposing element grants a small amount of elemental piety. Wilders gain piety by defeating mobs of any elemental alignment.
- Praying and Maintenance: Using the veneration prayer provides piety for your worshipped elemental god. Priests can also maintain roadside altars for piety. Both activities have individual and altar cooldowns.
- Sacrificing Tributes: Sacrificing tributes at an altar grants piety corresponding to the tribute type.
Moon and Piety Type
Defeating moon mobs grants increased piety based on the moon:
- Chto: Grants Nameless King piety (news updates says nether).
- Sorcerus: Grants Nether World piety (news updates says spirits).
- Elemental moons: Grant elemental piety corresponding to the opposing element.
- All Moons: Provide Aetheria piety.
Additional piety sources include:
- Funeral Pyre: The Fire Priest skill grants piety to fire worshippers in the party.
- Karma Piety: Using karma piety increases piety gain until the next server boot or relog.
- Shrines & Altars: Wilders gain spirit or ancestor piety by adding items to shrines or worshipping at them. Being near an active altar or shrine increases piety gains and reduces piety losses.
Piety Modifiers and Class Bonuses
Piety gain and consumption rates are modified by alignment, current moon phase, and player class:
- Elemental Alignment: You receive +10% piety for your primary element, plus an additional +10% if the current phase matches your element.
- Priests: Gain an extra +10% piety for their own element and consume 25% less piety when using abilities of that element.
- Wilders: Cannot earn elemental god piety, but gain +10% extra piety for spirits, ancestors, and the Nameless King.
- Monks: Gain +10% extra spirit piety and consume 25% less spirit piety.
Raising Prayer Skill
- Pray, some prayers are better than others. Or train if your build offers it.
Tributes
Tributes are a type of Treasure that can be sacrificed at an altar to give you piety of the corresponding type, e.g. a Tribute to aetheria will give Aetheria piety when sacrificed.
Boons can also be sacrificed to obtain ancestor piety. On average it takes about two boons to get enough piety to pray for a boon.
Other Uses of Piety
- Some gear drains piety, e.g. a certain crown
- Stormreaver axe, Crown of darkness both use spirits piety
