Tanning converts a raw animal skin into tanned leather, stabilising it so it will not spoil and softening it for later work. Scales can be tanned the same way, preserving them for later crafting. The quality of the result is shaped by your tanning skill, your craftsmanship, and the workshop you are standing in — a guild bench can start the job, but a provincial leatherworks will do noticeably better.
Syntax:
use tanning at <skin>
Examples:
use tanning at wolf skin use tanning at wyvern scales
See also: use preserve skin at <skin>, use dyeing at <leather> <colour>. To craft items from your tanned skins, set up a set of leathercrafter's equipment and use 'make <item> from <skin>'. Scales use a separate recipe there: 'make dragonscale <item> from <scale type>'.
A leatherworking skill, taught by the Leathercrafters. See Leatherworking, and Crafting for every craft.
