Repair a damaged province building using settlement materials.
Usage
repair : preview cost and condition
repair confirm : begin a repair session
Repair is real work — each session takes time, drains your endurance, and restores a portion of the building's condition. Heavy damage may take several sessions to fully patch up. Materials are drawn from the province stores at the start of each session. The work earns you a little experience for every bit of the building you make sound again.
A building that goes too long without care falls derelict — closed until repaired, though nothing is ever lost. A derelict building still lets you retrieve anything already stored, crafted, or stabled inside; it simply won't take anything new until it's repaired. Restoring one from that state costs far more material than routine upkeep.
Repair is always done from the building's outdoor lot, never its interior, which is why a closed building can still be repaired.
Tool
A hammer or mace, wielded or carried in your pack.
Better quality means faster work and a slightly larger patch per session.
Skills that help (the same crafts that built it)
- All buildings: construction, craftsmanship, workmanship, finishing, designing, fine hand coordination
- Stone (workshop, shrine, smeltery): masonry (primary), engraving, knowledge of minerals
- Wood (housing, storehouse, food hall, inn): carpentry (primary), timber construction, joinery, knowledge of wood, hewing
- Sawmill / Mine: felling / mining (primary), construction
Profession skills that spare your strength
- timber maintenance (Logger's Hall) for timber-framed buildings
- stone maintenance (Apprentice Miners) for stone ones. A trained hand often works a whole session without tiring, and a little faster.
Both also grow slowly with use.
Untrained labour can patch a building, but it takes far more sessions and burns more materials for the same restoration. Skilled artisans patch quickly and waste little.
Repairs spend the province's own materials, so you must
have Trusted standing in the province, or whatever
higher standing its council asks for (council repairs),
and you must be standing at the building you wish to
repair. Council members always qualify.
Improved and Advanced buildings carry serious maintenance. A solo founder will spend many sessions on a single repair — for big provinces, recruit colleagues into the council so the work can be shared.
Stopping a session early is safe: any unused materials go back to the province stores, and a short session that hasn't ticked over yet costs nothing at all.
