Artists of wood

Introduction

The Artists of Wood is the decorative-carpentry school of the Atherton carpentry halls. Members practise varnishing, wood knowledge and sculpture under an artist-in-residence. Wood carving is still taught, though few commissions come in these days — the craft endures in the curriculum against the day the demand returns.

The workshop lies west of the apprentice carpenters' hall in Atherton, and is entered through them.
