Lockers
A locker keeps your spare gear safe while you travel. You have one locker, and every locker office and strongroom opens the same one. For your coins, see Banks.
Where to find one
The locker office in Vaerlon rents lockers to anyone of level 10 or more. From Main Street, step west into the alley outside the Double Dragon Inn; the office is to the south, marked L on the city map. You rent your locker in the office and use it in the locker room below. The way down opens only while your rent is paid.
Province strongrooms lie beneath a trapdoor in the floor of every province inn. The innkeeper lets you down once you have Trusted standing in that province; missions earn it. Renting, paying and using your locker all happen in the strongroom.
Whether you open your locker in Vaerlon or in a strongroom, you see the same contents.
Sizes and rent
Rent is counted in real-life days. Renting a locker costs two days' rent and gives you one day; buy more with pay.
| Size | Holds | Rent per day | Renting it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 30 litres | 500 silver | 1,000 silver |
| Medium | 100 litres | 1,500 silver | 3,000 silver |
| Large | 250 litres | 3,000 silver | 6,000 silver |
Space is counted by bulk, not weight. look at locker shows how much room is left.
Commands
At the locker office or a strongroom:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
buy <size> |
Rent a locker: small, medium or large. |
pay <days> |
Pay rent for more days. |
pay <who> <days> |
Pay someone else's rent. |
check |
See your locker's size and when the rent runs out. |
check <who> |
The same for someone else's locker. |
upgrade <size> |
Move up to medium or large. It costs the same as renting that size. You keep three quarters of the time you had left, plus one day, and the contents stay. |
downgrade <size> |
Move to a smaller locker, free, when everything inside fits. The rent you have paid stretches to more days at the smaller rate. Pay any overdue rent first. |
Beside your locker (the locker room in Vaerlon, or the strongroom):
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
open locker |
Open it. |
close locker |
Close and secure it. |
look at locker |
See what is inside and how much room is left. |
put <item> to locker |
Store something. |
get <item> from locker |
Take something back. |
- Name several things at once with commas:
put sword, shield to locker. put noeq to lockerstores everything you are not wearing or wielding. Anything on your keep list stays with you.put <item> from disc to lockerstores things straight from your floating disc.- A locker does not take coins, arrows and other ammunition, items you cannot drop, or items that would not survive a world restart.
- If you take out more than you can carry, the rest drops to the floor.
When the rent runs out
The locker expires. You cannot open it, add to it or take from it, and in Vaerlon the way down to the locker room stays shut. Nothing is lost: the contents wait inside. Paid days count on from the day the rent ran out, so pay for the missed days and some more, and everything is back as you left it. check shows how long ago it expired.
Closing up
Close your locker when you are done. Leaving the room or quitting closes it for you, but a locker still open when the world restarts may spill its contents onto the floor.
